President Goodluck Jonathan has suspended the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, after an investigation established that he was culpable for financial recklessness, a statement by Presidential Spokesman Reuben Abati said on Thursday.
Abati explained that Sanusi has been
accused of donating huge sums, ranging from N10 billion to smaller sums,
to state governments and institutions without regard to whether or not
he had the power to do so.
In his words, “It was noted that most of
those donations went to Northern states and interests. It was alleged
that when Sanusi got wind of the investigation, he began to hurriedly
dole out funds to groups in other parts of the nation.”
